Practical Information

Location

The Gulf of Orosei is located on the eastern coast of Sardinia, along the Tyrrhenian Sea. This breathtaking stretch of coastline lies within the province of Nuoro and is known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, crystal-clear waters, and hidden coves. It sits between the coastal towns of Cala Gonone and Santa Maria Navarrese, forming one of the most untouched and scenic areas of the island.

Transportation & Exploration

🚐 By Car: Renting a car is the most convenient and flexible way to explore the Gulf of Orosei. From major entry points such as Olbia Airport, Cagliari Airport, or Alghero Airport, you can easily reach the eastern coast and explore the region at your own pace. A car allows you to access remote beaches, mountain viewpoints, and small villages that are otherwise difficult to reach. The roads are generally well maintained and very scenic, especially along coastal and inland mountain routes.

🚆Public transportation: Public transportation in Sardinia is available but limited, especially in rural and coastal areas like the Gulf of Orosei. Buses connect main towns such as Nuoro, Dorgali, and coastal hubs like Cala Gonone, but schedules can be infrequent and may not align well with beach or hiking plans. It is possible to rely on public transport for part of the journey, but it significantly reduces flexibility when exploring more remote locations.

🚤 By Boat: One of the most iconic ways to explore the Gulf of Orosei is by boat. From ports like Cala Gonone or Santa Maria Navarrese, boat tours and private rentals allow access to some of the most spectacular beaches in Sardinia, including coves that are unreachable by land. Sailing along the coastline offers a unique perspective of the towering cliffs, sea caves, and turquoise waters that make this area so famous.
